Stop the drop out

Welcome

At the end of 2014, ISFCE, the Higher Institute for Continuing Education in Etterbeek, obtained the Erasmus+ Charter. ISFCE is the first school for social advancement to obtain it!

In 2018, the ISFCE was selected for the project: "Developing the motivation of adults at risk of drop-out" in partnership with:

  • The University of Orleans
  • The Faculty of Law of the University of Aruba in the Netherlands Antilles
  • The Faculty of Commerce at the University of Budapest in Hungary.

The motivation to start studying or starting again is often intrinsic to students. There are more dropouts than failures in courses. It appears that students need change, both on an institutional and educational level. ISFCE and its partners joined forces to do research on this topic and aim to provide solutions for the dropout problem by 2021.

Social advancement is a well-developed educational system in Belgium and exists for quite some time, but it is unique in Europe. Our specific problems, our research for solutions and their application are all useful experiences in this Erasmus+ project.

During a first meeting between partners in Belgium, a data collection method was developed. The results were exchanged at the second meeting in Hungary in May 2019. The causes of adults dropping out in training were identified from the results.

The third meeting was in Aruba, in the beginning of January 2020.

Possible solutions have been developed through the following themes:

  • the institutional framework;
  • the infrastructure;
  • the educational methodology;
  • the link between studies and the world of work;
  • the student as an individual.

A fourth meeting is planned in France in October 2020.

The final phase of the project, in 2021, will be the publication and dissemination of the results.
